For under the $1500 price tag used in the article , the Asus G50vt-1 blows every other laptop away. It incorporates the T9400 Intel chip and Asus builds a special model for Newegg.com. The G50vt-x6 incorporates the T8700 chip, a smaller hard drive (320G), and offers less in the way of speakers, but it's $200 less then the G50vt-1...

Well my suggestion is to go for dell XPS 1730 if you are hardcore gamer. I have Dell Inspiron 1720 with core2duo 2 Ghz, 3 gb ram ,geforce 8600gt 256 mb gfx card and believe me that it is ok for all games now. But i wanted high performance so purchased Dell XPS 1730 with core2duoextreme 2.8 Ghz, 6mb cache X9000, 4 gb ddr 2 ram, 512x2 Nvidia geforce 8800M gtx in sli, ageiga physx and it rocks. It is a nice piece of machine but a bit costly.

I'm not so sure I agree with the HP. I think it's more of an entertainment notebook than it is a gaming one. Thought good going with the ASUS model. However, last time I checked, it wasn't available on www.newegg.com anymore : (

For those seriously seeking a gaming laptop under $1500 I fear this article is a bit misleading. The 8600M GT does have some failure issues, but even forgetting about that, it's a slow chip. The 8600M GT has a mere 32 stream processors and only a 128 bit memory bus. That's not good enough. If you just want to play WoW on your new laptop, the 8600 series is fine, but if you want to play more demanding games you are going to be disappointed. The 8800M GTS, 8800M GTX, and the newer 9800M series (and the new mobile 4850/4870 cards from ati) are really the only options if you want to play newer games at decent resolutions/detail settings/framerates. They all have a 256 bit memory bus and the equivalent of 64 or more stream processors. The first (gateway) laptop does have a slower processor clock, but the graphics solution is far superior to the other laptops reviewed. I would find out if it is safe to open up that model laptop and replace the cpu with a superior one (higher clock speed) and sell the T5550 chip or I would see if it's possible to overclock it a bit, but that's just me. In all honesty when it comes to gaming, 95% of the time the graphics card is more important than the processor (exceptions: Flight Sim X, Supreme Commander). A 1.83ghz Core 2 Duo processor is fine for most games while an 8600M GT is not.

The HP laptop recommended would be a terrible purchase, it, like the 9500 series, has serious including the wifi adapter turning it self (very bad for gaming), the sound has issues, some older games and programs (3 years or older) cause the system to need to be restarted. Also, nvidia 8600 are terrible buy as recently nvidia have said that all 8600s have a high fail rate.
